Novistas UNITE!!!

Greetings, Novistas!

This summer, Costa Nova turns 5 years old.  It has been quite a trip with more than a few turns.  Now, we find ourselves at yet another crossroads: our incomparable drummer Thomas is moving back to his homeland of Argentina.

We have had more than our share of losses behind the drum kit, but in the short time that Thomas has been with us, he has become an indispensable part of the Costa Nova sound.  He is an inspiration and we will miss him dearly!  After his departure, we’ll be taking some time off to see where the road might lead.

Which brings us to the exciting point!  The future is unclear, so we are going to rock the hell out of the present – while capturing the moment for posterity!  And for this, dear Novistas, we need your help!!

On Saturday, August 7, Costa Nova is throwing a live recording session party at The Hobby Shop studios in Highland Park. We will be playing two sets of tunes just for you.  There will be a keg of fine beer.  There will be a dj.  There will be a CELEBRATION!

AND, at the helm, capturing the whole shebang in digital wax, will be legendary producer Andrew Murdock, aka Mudrock (Godsmack, Avenged Sevenfold, Lou Barlow)!!!

Loyal Novistas, the key to the kick-assitude of this night and these recordings is YOU.  We need your help in two ways.  First, we need to fill the studio with your sexy bodies and your cheering voices.  This is a unique, intimate experience, and our performance depends greatly on the energy you will bring.

Second, in order to pull off this experience, we are launching a fund drive.  It may be a cliché, but it’s true: we are struggling artists, and we have poured our hearts and souls (and much of our hard-earned cash) into our music and this band.  After all this time and effort, while it pains us to do so, we are forced to humbly ask for help to keep the Novista Revolution alive. Making a live album is not cheap. It is much cheaper than a normal studio album or an independent film, but still no small endeavor.  So, just this once, we really need you to reach down deep and give whatever you can.  We know times are tough (believe us we know), but if we have ever touched you in any way we'd really appreciate your support right now.  This may be the end, or it might just be the end of the beginning, but we want to make sure to capture what we have at this moment and we hope you will be a part of it.

And, just like your favorite public radio station, we are offering good stuff to reward your good deed.  You can donate any amount you like (no amount is too small – or too big), or take your pick of our following packages:

$10 -- gets you into the show, all the beer you can drink (until the keg runs dry), and a digital copy of the finished album, which will feature YOU in all your whooping, hollering glory.

$25 -- gets you the show, the beer, the album, PLUS a Certificate of Awesomeness signed by the band, and a limited edition “Costa Nova Live At The Hobby Shop” t-shirt, hand screened by the band on your preferred-color, high quality cotton shirt! (Please indicate size.)

$50 and up -- gets you the show, the beer, the album, the certificate, the t-shirt, PLUS a digital booklet for the album, a signed cd with personalized label, your name featured in the ‘Novista Revolutionaries’ section of our website, a DVD of the show (if we can manage to film it), and any other cool stuff we come up with later.

You can contribute securely via the PayPal buttons below (all you need is a credit card), pay at the door, or send checks to our headquarters:

Costa Nova
2406 Entrance Drive
Los Angeles, CA 90027

Even if you can’t make it to the show, contribute here and you will receive the lovely gifts listed above, plus the satisfaction and prestige that comes with being a certified Patron of the Arts!

And if any of you are willing to contribute your time to shoot video or still photography to help document the event, please let us know!

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank all of our beloved Novistas for your years of support and love. We truly couldn’t have done any of it without you. We can’t wait to share the love with you on August 7!!

xo,
Costa Nova

Worthless blabber and other such assorted non-sense from the waif-like guitarist.

Its still wartime. We have not left that ya know? Sorry but its a bad economy too. What the heck is happening to America? And who the fuck uses the word heck? Bad economy inspired us to write the song "Brother Can You Spare A Dime". I think thats the title we have settled on. Or short version of title when we write setlists is "Hey Brother". Just come out to see us play and you'll be able to judge for yourselves. All in all everything is changing. Its like our lives just turned into fall trees with the leaves turning colors. Sorry if you west coasters didn't get the reference but I grew up on the east coast. I think all of you are smart enough to figure it out tho. Thats why I like you. Cause you're smart!

I miss playing Venice Rocks. Such a great scene where we met a lot of great people. I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses it.

Our friend Ryan Crosby played with us recently and he was amazing as usual. Love to watch him loop on the DL4. Sorry getting technical. He's so talented and we would love to watch him rise to great success.

Also we have this new song "Incidental Tourist" which we are very proud of. Its pretty upbeat and rocking. "Kingpin" is another new one too. I always end up having the chorus to that one stuck in my head after rehearsal.

I'm listening to this band called Woolen who we saw at one of the awesome Hobby Shop nights in Highland Park. Its this awesome studio owned by a really cool producer named Andrew Murdock. For a reasonable fee of a donation you get to hang out, listen to a DJ, have good quality local beer, and watch some amazing musicians play live. Its really cool.

World Cup was fun. So happy Spain won. First time ever. Awesome.
Oh Kevin's new adjective is awesomeish. Just saying. Thats what a quality college education gets you. Amazing new word combos.

Headphones are an amazing invention to listen to music with. Serious man.

What does it take to write a hit song? Wow now I'm really blabbering. Wait no......maybe someone has the answer eh?
Okay well it was nice of you to listen to my blabbering. I'm gonna go fade into dreamland now. Maybe I'll see you there.
Sweet Dreams Novistas.
Adios, Andy

Gorillaz,Race Cars, Coachella and Good Times.

Hello never ending internet universe. Does the internet have an end? I dunno but I don't think so. We are all a part of it. A magical place where anything is possible. I think. I am just naive so don't believe all you hear from me. Its been a while since I rambled on here so I am gonna try to get better at doing this more often. We are playing every Tuesday this month at 14 Below in Santa Monica. Its at 14th and Santa Monica and its 2 Dollar tuesdays. Drink specials galore so if ya like to drink this is right up your alley. Plus we probably sound amazing to you if you're drunk. We try to play with a lot of passion and give it our all everytime so hopefully you see that. Lots of guest bands we are friends with are playing too. Like Nu Savant (formally The Naked....how long do we have to write that after their new name anyways? Is there a specified time period. They are awesome!) ,Red Circle Underground, Franco Near Death, The Deadlies, Beth Paige Black,Cityzen, and the lovely DJ Miss Aubrey spinning awesome tunes.
Music to me is about a journey. Its been life's soundtrack in so many ways. Its a celebration!(bitches! Picture Dave Chappelle doing Rick James here) Anyways.......Music brings people together. Its about unity. My experience friday night started thursday night with a text to a good friend. Gorillaz are one of my favorite bands of all time. Damon Albarn is one of my favorite singers in this modern day and has been for quite some time. So I didn't want to go on the Coachella merry go round for 3 days but I really wanted to see Gorillaz. Turns out they were playing a warm-up rehearsal show here in town friday night. Secret show.So I reached out to a good friend of mine who has connections. He gave it his all and put out several calls to get me in. I am so very grateful for my friend who will remain nameless.God smiled on me and I witnessed a Gorillaz show like no other. It was amazing. All the great musicians Damon Albarn brought together for it is so awesome. Bobby Womack, De La Soul, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon from The Clash and many more. I witnessed UNITY thru music.
Then Saturday morning came and we played the Long Beach Grand Prix with our good friends Ironheel. Two hard working bands sharing a stage at a Grand Prix.Unity through music. Then their drummer Jimbo and my two bandmates Gilday and Kevin headed back out to the desert for Coachella and more UNITY thru music. Oh after our current drummer Steve Coy took us for amazing Tacos in Long Beach. Yummmm.
So many good times through music and so much UNITY through music.
I try to get people to understand the strength in numbers thing with bands. Its so much better than going it alone in this industry. Build a community of bands through the unity of our music and see what happens. I had a pretty awesome conversation with Keith from Nu Savant(formally The Naked...hehe) about all this when we were at the Kibitz Room and I can't really remember if they were playing or we were or The Shakers but I know Frankie from Fat City Reprise had something to do with the UNITY that night. I hope we continue as a band to grow and to grow with our fellow bands we have as friends now. I hope to play music for you soon so we can be united.
Be well.
Andy Novista

Dear Old Friday Night Plans...

Greetings Novistas,

We know LA can be a complicated city in the areas of love and leisure. Sometimes you agree to weekend plans unaware that yet to be announced life changing concerts are in the works. We totally understand that when you made plans for this upcoming Friday Night you didn't know that Costa Nova, Paper Zoo, the Red Paintings AND Ironheel were all going to be playing a FREE show at Key Club on the legendary Sunset Strip. If you had known about this amazing night of music you certainly would have cleared your schedule of any potential entertainment related conflicts.

It's clear that you didn't know that an epic night of face melting rock was being planned at Key Club when you went ahead and made other plans...pale in comparison kind of plans...and now you're in a pickle...

Never fear. Costa Nova feels your pain and in honor of Valentine's Day we have written up a 'Dear John' letter for you to give your Soon to be Ex-Friday Night Plans to let them down easy and clear your path to a Friday Night for the record books. Simply cut and paste this letter and send it to your Old Friday Night Plans:

---------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friday Night Plans,

I don't know where to start...by the time you read this letter I'll will have confirmed new arrangements for my Friday Night Entertainment. You've been amazing and you were there for me on so many Fridays, even if I called you up at the last minute, but...there's some new plans in my life and I can't deny them for a second longer.

I really want you to know that it's not you...it's me. You've done everything I could ever ask of you but...I might only have one shot at an epic evening like this and god damn it, I have to take it. I'm sure this will be hard for you to understand but if it was just Costa Nova or just Ironheel or even just 3 out of the 4 bands I wouldn't have left you....But 4 hours of unbelievable music on a Friday Night for FREE!?!(or if you're 18+ substitute '$5' for 'FREE') How can I resist!?!

This doesn't have to mean it's over for us. Maybe we can get together next Friday or some other Friday in the future. What we had was great kid and we gave it our all. We'll always have the memories. When I'm rocking out having the time of my life this Friday Night at Key Club I'm sure for a few moments, when there's a lull between bands and I'm waiting for the bartender to get me my drink I'll remember the good ole times we had together and maybe just maybe a single tear will slip out. I'll miss you Old Friday Night Plans.

Sincerely,

{Your Name Here}

---------------------------------------------------------------

Send out this letter and we promise all your problems will be solved.
